Ghost in the Machine traces artificial intelligence back to its roots in eugenics-era statistics and asks who really benefits from the AI boom. Directed by Valerie Veatch, it features Emily M. Bender, Alex Hanna, Paris Marx, Dan McQuillan, Abeba Birhane and more than 30 other researchers, writers and data workers. After premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, it aired on PBS Independent Lens and is now streaming worldwide.
